What is a Virtual Assistant?

Picture it, Lynchburg, VA 2020. I’ve come up with this great way to help small business owners but what do I call it? So I started Googling and came across the term virtual assistant.

Prior to July 2020, I had never of this term. What is a virtual assistant? Do they run errands for someone? Do they take notes at a meeting? I had no idea.

A virtual assistant is defined as someone who provides support services to a business from a remote location. A VA can help entrepreneurs take a few tasks off their plate so they can focus on their business, not backend management.

Hiring a virtual assistant is almost a necessity for small business owners. Small businesses are sometimes a one-person operation and they can’t do it all, all the time. There are so many tasks that need to be done to build a successful business and the owner may not be in a position to hire an employee. Enters the virtual assistant! Most of the time, virtual assistants are freelancers/contractors. What that means for the business owner is they don’t have to pay for taxes, health insurance, equipment, or a space to house them. Virtual assistants set their rates based on their skill, experience, and having to pay their own taxes. It’s a win-win for the business owner - you get the tasks that you don’t have time to do done and the VA gets to do what they like doing at a rate they choose. Why not hire a virtual assistant?

Though it is a great idea to hire a virtual assistant, make sure you do your research. There are plenty of legitimate, professional, and reliable VAs in the world. But as with any industry, there are also unethical people out there. So please be diligent and do your research to make sure you are hiring the right fit for your business.

Virtual assistants can help you in all aspects of your business. We can do it all, whether it’s tech, customer service, project management, copywriting, bookkeeping, or graphic design! The options are endless. And what makes virtual assistants special is that they are flexible and knowledgeable in their field. My favorite part about being a virtual assistant is that I get to do things I like doing while helping fellow business owners grow their businesses. I started out designing websites and I realized I needed to do more so I learned other techy tasks lol. The beauty of running my own virtual assistant business is I can pivot as I see fit. I still design websites but my main niche is as a tech VA. I enjoy these types of tasks and I’ve found an industry of entrepreneurs who need it.

What better way to help your business run smoothly than to hire a virtual assistant who is invested in your business growth and is an expert in what they do?
